Description
Gas-electric sconce with Gillinder shades
This single brass gas/electric sconce with Gillinder shades has rich patina. It also has patent dates of Sept. 20, 1896 and Dec. 9, 1890 on the fitter rings of the fixture. Each shade is dated Aug. 18, 1908 on the rim. The design on the shades is often referred to as a pineapple motif. We converted the gas arm to electric for use in today’s world. If you’d prefer, you can replicate the original look of this fixture by using a flicker bulb in the gas arm for ambiance, OR you can use up to a 60W bulb or its equivalent in each socket.
The sconce has one paddle switch that controls both arms. Turn it once, and one of the arms lights up. Turn it again, and that arm goes out and the other one lights up. If you turn it again, both lights will come on. Turn it once more to turn the fixture off. You can also operate this sconce with a wall switch, and use the paddle switch to dictate which of the arms you would like to use. This fixture offers lots of versatility!
It could be perfect in an entranceway, a hallway, stairwell, dining room, bedroom, library, bathroom, etc. With the shades, it measures 14″ high by 7 1/2″ wide by 10″ deep. It’s rewired with a ground wire added to meet today’s electric codes.
