My interest in vintage lamps comes from watching many films from the early days of Hollywood and British filmmaking. The lighting in these early films was so dramatic in black and white which for me made them so enjoyable to watch. Many of the scenes usually included beautiful table lamps right in the center of the set. Over the years I began a small collection of these lamps from antique stores in my travels. Recently I made a wonderful discovery in Old Lamps & Things. I was a little uncertain about ordering a lamp online without being able to see it up close in person. Cheryl put me at ease with the process and was such a pleasure to work with. After much deliberation I finally (with Cheryl’s help) made a decision on the one that would be a good fit in my home. It arrived in perfect condition and I was so impressed with the professional packaging. The lamp is truly magnificent and even more beautiful than I was expecting! Great customer service, professional, and knowledgeable about their products would be the best way I can describe my experience with Old Lamps & Things.

I purchased a lamp (circa 1920’s) from this business and I couldn’t be happier! Cheryl was awesome to work with and kept me posted on everything from pricing, shipping info, shipping and anything else that I had a question on. The company that she deals with to pack and ship the items did a fantastic job and the lamp was firmly secured in a heavy cardboard container with bubble wrap and “peanuts”. Once I had it unpacked there was no damage and it was exactly what I had expected, actually better than I had expected! I couldn’t be more pleased with the the lamp and the whole experience to purchase it and get it to my home. A huge thumbs up to Cheryl and her business “Old Lamps and Things”. We are building a unique log cabin which is to look like it was a built in the early 1900’s. Although, there would not have been electricity to this secluded gem at that time, Cheryl was such a great help in finding pieces that would work for that time period, wiring them for electricity, rewiring them to make a piece functional and safe or…. customizing something to make it look just as you would like.

Cheryl and Ron are exactly the reason I prefer to deal with a small business over a big box store. I came to them with a broken desk lamp.The switch I needed had been discontinued.Ron found a solution using alternate pieces from his parts bin. Since the lamp wasn’t worth much, Ron didn’t think it would be worth the money for him to fix it. But if I wanted, he could sell me the parts and show me how to fix it myself, saving me quite a bit of money. Ron sat down with me, and walked me step by step through the process, a one on one tutorial on how to rewire a lamp.
So now I have my lamp back! And it’s working great! I should also mention that Ron and I are both “Gear Heads”, (much to my wife’s chagrin), so the conversation kept drifting from lamps to drag racing!
I truly enjoyed this experience. In fact, I may have to “accidentally” knock over one of my wife’s lamps. Just to have an excuse to go back! (We’ll keep that between us though).

I can’t say enough about the team at Old Lamps & Things. Although the term is overused, working with them has been awesome. I think enough of them to send my lamps to them for rewiring and repair from Wisconsin. One lamp they repaired is a soft metal and was cracked with age. They were able to fill in the crack. I can’t even see where it was. They are prompt, considerate and their work is first class. Customer service is wonderful. I’ve texted Cheryl on weekends and she’s replied the same day. Most recently, I asked a question about a crooked table lamp. Cheryl consulted with Ron and told me how to fix it on my own. I am so happy to have found them and would recommend them to anyone.

We have my husband’s mother floor stand lamp that has three bulb around the stand and a globe in the top middle. The globe got broke and needed to be replaced and, “1” screw that holds the globe in place was missing. In a matter of a few days I received my globe and a screw – both vintage. Cheryl, proprietor of Lamps and Things, is amazingly gracious, conscientious and personable. I ordered a rare piece from her shop in Connecticut and she had it ready to ship the next day after a holiday weekend. The kerosene lamp was wrapped so thoroughly and packed so carefully that breakage in route was nearly impossible. The piece arrived in Texas all the way from Connecticut by ground shipping in less than a week in perfect condition. I was so impressed with the customer service, the lamp and her competence throughout the process of purchasing the lamp. The process was extremely fast and easy and I could never have hoped for better results. It is obvious that she is a very honest and caring. A very pleased customer in Texas.

Cheryl and Ron have an amazing collection of vintage lighting. My wife and I were very fortunate to have discovered Old Lamps and Things. We live in a home built in 1912 and have purchased many sconces and ceiling lights that have helped us maintain the home in a historically correct fashion. If you are anything like us, trying to find light fixtures that fit into an old house design with authentic antiques is almost impossible. We solved this problem beautifully when we discovered Old Lamps and Things. We were building from scratch so our ceiling and wall fixtures are all restored antique fixtures that passed code just fine. Later, when the house was done we bought a second and third round of table and floor lamps. Really lovely! Couldn’t be happier!

For years, I kept pieces & parts in a box in the garage…in South Florida, suspecting they were special-recovered from a demo’d building in NYC years ago. Finally, Google helped me find Old Lamps & Things in CT. After a promising phone call, shipped them all to Old Lamps & Things. Then the obstacles…a shipping mishap & broken glass (no fault of OL&T), a hurricane delay, my multi-state traveling…and despite hurdles, they kept me posted. These folks are angels. They hunted and shopped locally to replace the extinct broken glass part, put together the 100 year old chandelier, insured the electrical integrity and shipped it back in a condition better than I could have imagined. It is beautiful in my home. After all that…their pricing was incredibly fair. Although the light fixture hanging in my home was the goal, the knowledge shared, kindness, and patience was an invaluable bonus. I have yet to visit CT or actually meet Cheri & Ron but, totally trusted their knowledge and experience…by phone. What a refreshing experience in this way too fast world. I highly recommend their workmanship, knowledge and appreciate their integrity.
